STUDIO
SPECS
Tucked away amongst the tall
redwoods of the Santa Cruz mountains, Phase
3 studio offers a quiet creative
environment perfect for development of music and
ideas. The interior of Phase 3
was designed for comfort and ease of use so that
the creative process would not be limited. Both
control and tracking rooms are 15ft. wide by 20'
deep with 14' vaulted ceilings. Independent 6"
thick maple hard wood floating floores were installed
in both rooms to aid in the isolation of sound
energy between rooms. Two sheets (1 1/2")
of gypsum board cover the walls and cilings of
the entire studio. Separating the two rooms is
a 15" thick slanted wall which has been retrofitted
with a custom two pane 7' X 3' observation window
frame and STC 51 acoustic door by Overly Door
Co. For acoustical treatment the rear of the control
room has a diffusion pannel system by RPG while
the front of the mixing environment has a custom
bass trapping system. The studio is wired entirely
with Mogami cable.
PRDUCTION NOTES
quilted fish records
offers the best of both analog and digital worlds.
With the use of mic preamps by Grace and Summit
and our collection of reference mic's we are capable
of delivering an extremly clean signal to the
24Bit Apogee A/D converter. Furthermore tube Compressors
and EQ's by Summit are utilized to add additional
analog warmth to the digital signal. The Apogee
A/D converter is capable of preserving the original
analog signal as it is sent digitaly into ProTools.
ProTools is a very powerful editing and mixing
tool which makes almost anything possible in the
studio. Mixing at Phase 3
is done exclusivly within ProTools with the ProControl
digital interface. The monitoring environment
in the control room is sonically reveiling. Tannoy
AMS10 near field reference monitors coupled with
a Dual 15 sub and Aria controller expose subtle
details in the music that help bring out full
range imaging in the mix. Our production philosophy
begins with correctly recorded tracks. Good basic
tracks lend themselves to easy and comfortable
mixes. |
